THE CHRISTMAS MARKET

Step through a door of fir and fur,
Cold, pale air -
Breathing quickening,
Mist in the air -
Hot smoke - your breath blows away.

Step up -
A level of deliciousness,
Sweet and white -
Dark and bitter,
That chocolate sent from heaven.

Enter the world of play,
Pinocchio's workshop,
A wondrous concoction of wood and magic -
Figurines studding each window.

Higher, higher -
In the sky,
Children's laughter -
Like little bubbles.

Everlasting,
games of pleasure.

There is always something for everyone at the Stuttgart Christmas Market. A family, for example, could go to the games, where there are real steam trains that little children can sit on to ride through a miniature town, or take the older children for a walk through the little shops with wooden carvings. Adults could sit down (or walk around) with a cup of hot wine, and just listen to musicians of all ages playing on the streets. Here are just some of the most memorable moments for me:

There are many little toy shops around the Christmas Market. This one sells nearly everything made out of wood, but there are some shops that sell things made out of paper or glass. It is really astonishing as there are some traditional things that you can only find in Germany, for example little toy men sliding down ladders, spinning glass candles and traditional Christmas cake made with raisins.

Salmon is always very delicious - yum yum! Here the strips of salmon are being cooked by wood fire. We order our food then sit down in a warm hut on benches covered with furs to enjoy it.

THE ZOO POEM

A gate -
An avenue of flowers,
To tell the flow of events.

Birth -
Of a baby gorilla,
The migration
Of so many stars.

The evening tide -
That washes away,
Eggs breaking -
The whales that are stranded.

Enter -
Wonderland,
Empty -
No air.

As cold and delicious -
Like a juicy pear.
The juice -
A flower of rose's kin.

Wonderland opens -
Each time -
A flower bud.
A new kind of species -
Of the Botanical Family.

Prick your finger on a thorn -
And never go to sleep.
Savour -
Longing,
All the juice that the cactus might reap.

Close the lost -
And find the found,
Of a hundred other more.

Growling,
Squeaking,
Squawking,
Snorting,
All the animals.

Beware, mankind -
And treat them all with care.
And poke them not with instruments of torture,
If you wish to find out more.

Take a care, humans -
For curiosity killed the CAT!

Beautiful cacti!
